Establishment of the Library Readers' Club at VCRI, Namakkal
on 14.03.2025
The Library Readers' Club was established under the chairmanship of Dr. M. Selvaraju, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, and the inauguration ceremony was held on 19.03.2025. On the occasion, Dr. M. Selvaraju, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal delivered a special address and expressed that it is a commendable initiative to nurture a love for reading and intellectual growth among students. With active participation and well-planned activities, the club will act as a vibrant centre for literary excellence in the institution.
This initiative will significantly contribute to fostering a culture of reading, critical thinking, and intellectual engagement among students. The club was constituted with a dedicated team of five faculty members, twenty-five student volunteers (each five students from the first professional year to the final professional year), and five research scholars to assist and promote reading habits among their peers.
The objective of the Library Readers' Club is engaging students in monthly activities such as Book discussions on Veterinary Literature for exploring essential books, Case studies and advancements in the field of Veterinary Science , Journal club meetings for reviewing and discussing recent research papers in Veterinary science, Guest lectures & author sessions, Case study analysis, Reading challenges, Conducting workshops on Scientific writing & research papers for helping students improve their academic writing and publishing abilities, Library orientation and literacy programs to enhance research and information Skills. It may serve as a platform for members to discuss how to utilize the Library resources, share insights, promote reading habits, enhance research skills, and encourage interdisciplinary discussions that contribute to the academic growth of the institution.
The future plan of the library readers club is to establish a digital reading hub for easy access to e-books and journals, collaborate with other institutions for inter-college literary events, and organize an annual literature festival at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal.
Event No: 1
Competitive Examination Books display & Visualization ( 14.03.2025 to 18.03.2025)
A sum of Rs.3,00,000 has been allotted under the ICAR SC-SP plan during the year 2023-24. Under this plan, a total of five hundred and forty-eight unique collections of books for competitive examinations were purchased for the benefit of SC/ST civil aspirant students of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal.
. The Library Readers Club has organized a three-day event: a display of newly purchased, unique collections of Competitive examination books and a Visualization of books through AI tools for the benefit of students. The Competitive Examination Books display & Visualization has been inaugurated by Dr. M. Selvaraju, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal on 14.03.2025. Around 400 students visited the book display from 14.03.2025 to 18.03.2025 and registered their feedback about the new collection of competitive examination books.

Reading Challenge - 2025 on 19.03.2025
The Library Readers Club has organized a second event as a Reading Challenge -2025 program on 19.03.2025. A total of 300 students have participated in the Reading Challenge 2025 event. The special address about the impact of reading was delivered by
Dr. M. Selvaraju, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal to motivate the students . They gathered in front of the library at 6.00 AM and took the Pledge, Let's Read Books and Love Reading and minimum 5 pages for reading daily. They started reading at 6.20 AM and finished at 6.50 AM. Finally, students registered their feedback about the early morning Mass reading. A vote of thanks was given by students. At the end of the program, the report cards for Reading Challenge -2025 were distributed to all students.
